Soma Film Production
Film Production Company Identity
A German film production company wanted a mark that reflected their ambition — corporate, cinematic, and distinct. The brief was explicit: no cameras, no film rolls, no clapperboards. Instead, they pointed to the name itself: 'soma', drawn from Aldous Huxley's Brave New World. The concept had to come from the word.

No clichés — no film rolls, cameras, or clapperboards. The name 'soma' carries its own philosophy. Let the concept follow the word.
Soma Film Production is a German/Swiss company producing films for corporate and commercial clients, with ambitions for short and feature films on the horizon. Their new identity needed to attract both corporate clients and creative agencies as a potential partner — projecting credibility without looking like every other production company.
The brief pointed designers toward the name itself: “soma” is the fictional drug from Aldous Huxley's Brave New World— described as delivering “all the benefits of Christianity and alcohol without their defects.” The client wanted the logo to draw from this philosophical and literary heritage, not from the visual grammar of the film industry.

Rejected Explorations
Trust the word. Let the name do the work.

Symbol
The wordmark is the mark. 'soma' set in Trojan Pro carries enough philosophical weight that no symbol is needed — adding one would dilute the concept. The brief asked for something subtle and sophisticated; trusting a single word to do everything is exactly that.
Typography
Trojan Pro — a classical serif with the quiet authority of old-world cinema. Its Roman letterforms carry heritage and intelligence without feeling archaic. At display size it commands attention; at small scale on a business card, it holds its weight without effort.
Colour
Black and white. Two colours. No ambiguity. A film production company pitching to corporate clients needs to project confidence, not trend-awareness. A monochrome palette ensures the mark works on any substrate — embossed letterhead, digital deck, building signage — without a single colour conversation.
